Health Equity

We're Putting People First

Everyone deserves to have equitable access to lifesaving opportunities for diabetes prevention, care, and medication. Here's what we're doing about it.

We're Taking a Stand Against Health Disparities

136 million Americans are living with diabetes or prediabetes. This is a number we can't let continue to grow—especially when some communities still lack access to equitable health care and resources. Diabetes is the most expensive chronic condition in the United States, and millions of Americans struggle to afford health care, insulin, and other medications to manage their diabetes and associated complications. Here at the American Diabetes Association (ADA), we believe health equity is a human right. That's why we're fighting to build an equitable health care system to ensure everyone has access to the best possible diabetes care.

By the Numbers

Diabetes can impact anyone. But some communities are disproportionately affected—lacking diabetes awareness, education, and community resources. We're on a mission to change that.

We're Meeting People Where They Are

From programs like Project Power and ADA Camp to signature fundraising events like Tour de Cure® and Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes®, the ADA is actively involved in the community to provide diabetes awareness and education.

We're Building Awareness Through Programs and Initiatives

The ADA is leading the fight against diabetes and addressing unmet needs in communities at a higher risk through advocating at the federal, state, and grassroots levels; promoting health equity; and funding lifesaving research.
