If you're pregnant and thinking of that perfect name, or even if your baby has already arrived, as parents we love to know where our chosen baby name appears in the charts.

Here at BabyCentre we’ve looked at the baby names mums and dads have chosen this year and registered on our website - and we can reveal there's a new queen taking the throne for the girls!

Lily isn’t just a choice for Harry and Meghan, but also for many new parents in 2021, pushing the name to the top of the girls’ charts for the first time in ten years. Although it's been bouncing around in the top five for the last decade, the last time Lily was top of the charts among BabyCentre parents was 2011.

Harry and Meghan have said they'll be using the spelling of Lili, as their daughter's full name is Lilibet after the Queen.

It’s an interesting development following years of Sophia and Olivia fighting for the top slot. Perhaps the spotlight on Lili/Lilibet will keep the name crowned number one for longer.

The top 30 girls’ names feature many of the frequent high flyers, as well as some who have jumped up the charts. Penelope rose a whopping 37 places to reach number 55. Scarlett rose by 27 places from last year, and Layla showed her popularity moving up 29 places, and her sister Lyla rising by 25 spots. Evelyn has also had a bit of a rise going up 15 places, but Ruby, Charlotte, Alice and Poppy were among those whose crown has slipped.

With the boys, it was a fixed top three from last year with Muhammad, Noah and Oliver non-movers for the top slots.

Although the top 10 for boys' names hasn't had any big changes, there have been a lot of new arrivals in the charts, particularly with Zayn strutting in at number 33 - perhaps due to former One Direction's singer Zayn Mallik?

John returned to the top 100, along with Zack and Levi as well as others new to the list.

Alex was the biggest riser, moving up 35 places to number 44, with Ronnie also climbing 25 places and Jaxon rising up 24 spots to reach number 15. Maybe 'cleanfluencer' and mum-of-two Mrs Hinch helped the name Ronnie as she chose it for her first son. David, Oscar, Ethan, Elliot, Kai and Sebastian were still in the top 100 boys’ names, but were some of the fallers in the boys' half-year list.
