Abstract

Current CO2 separation technologies by liquid solvents suffer from either high regeneration costs or low selectivity/capacity of the solvent. Dispersing ca. 12.5 wt% CO2-selective zeolite rho solid into the commercial CO2 capture solvent Genosorb® converts it into a porous liquid with at least 2.5 times greater CO2 capacity and CO2/CH4 selectivity compared to Genosorb® itself. This is predicted to result in more economical separation processes, particularly for biogas upgrading.

Graphical abstract

Porous liquid zeo-PLs, a novel class of solvent, provide a more efficient CO2 separation from CH4 and a more economical alternative over the current Genosorb solvent dissolution technology.
