Californian wine brand Barefoot is venturing into the hard seltzer market with a duo of Wine Seltzers.

The seltzers (4% abv) will launch in two flavours – Pineapple & Passionfruit and Strawberry & Guava.

Barefoot said the drinks would appeal to shoppers looking for a “thirst-quenching, lower-calorie drink”.

They are made by combining sparkling water with white wine and natural fruit flavours, and per 250ml can contain 70 calories.

They hit Tesco this month (rsp: £1.80/250ml).

Barefoot said the NPD offered “a premium alternative to beer and a lighter-bodied alternative to wine”.

Its marketing director Olga Senkina added the drinks were “the perfect drink for sunny summer days” and the can format was “an easy, convenient sustainable option whatever the occasion, whether it’s a BBQ or a Houseparty chat with friends”.

The launch is to be supported by PR and a social media campaign that will include influencers and YouTube advertising.
