Sinus UK

Improving information for sinus patients and supporting greater recognition of the impact of sinus related diseases

Better information, more recognition

We are the world’s first patient organisation to focus solely on supporting people with sinus diseases.

Whether that is diseases like acute rhinosinusitis, sometimes referred to as 'sinusitis' or 'rhinitis', or more long lasting and serious diseases such as chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps.

Despite the significant impact sinus diseases can have, we believe they are still largely under recognised by society, particularly when compared to other conditions with a similar impact on quality of life. Sinus diseases also lack the level of available information they deserve.

We plan to change this.

Why sinus disease matters

It can stop you from leading a normal life

  • Poor sleep, fatigue, facial pain, loss of smell and a persistent blocked nose are just some of the problems patients can face on a daily basis
  • Studies show that the impact of sinus disease on a patient’s life may be greater than other chronic illnesses such as heart failure, angina and COPD1

It can affect your mental health

  • Nearly one-third of patients with more severe sinus disease may suffer from depression as a result of their illness2

It can damage your working life

  • Patients can be nearly 40% less productive at work as a result of their sinus disease3

…and it’s more widespread than you might think

  • Nearly 1 in 5 people will have some form of sinus disease (e.g. acute rhinosinusitis, sometimes called rhinitis or sinusitis)4
  • About 1 in 10 may have a more long lasting and serious version of the disease (i.e. chronic rhinosinusitis) 5
