The New Orleans Convention & Visitors Bureau is now New Orleans & Company
ABOUT NEW ORLEANS & COMPANY
The former New Orleans Convention & Visitors Bureau (NOCVB) has rebranded and is now officially known as New Orleans & Company - a name that better reflects the work that we do and the people we serve.
At the core of our rebranding is this belief - New Orleans' culture is its greatest strength, and it is the people of New Orleans who create that culture. We intend to focus on ensuring that the tourism industry benefits all residents of New Orleans, as it continues to benefit our members and our visitors, to nourish and sustain the culture of our city which makes New Orleans a world-class travel destination and the world's greatest place to live, for those of us lucky enough to call it home.
Our new name embodies the inclusiveness we value, with "Company" representing our many members and partners, the more than 100,000 employees directly employed in tourism in New Orleans, the culture-bearers who shape and carry on our traditions, and, of course, the visitors we welcome as our guests.
Our goal is to cultivate and maintain what we call a "virtuous cycle" between the businesses and attractions that make up the tourism industry, the visitors who invest in those businesses and attractions, and the city's residents who benefit from tourism. As our promotion of the city continues and the city's offerings evolve, we will continue to support New Orleans' culture by providing more career opportunities than any other industry in the region and by generating revenues to fuel a vibrant economy in which all residents can find a path to prosperity.
The future is bright for New Orleans tourism and our city! Here, at New Orleans & Company, we look forward to even more growth in visitation and visitor spending in the future, and in return, adding even more jobs and tax revenues to our city's economy and nourishing and sustaining our city's culture for generations to come.

MAYOR CANTRELL CELEBRATES HISTORIC VISIT FROM SPAIN
NEW ORLEANS - Following a busy weekend of celebratory events, today Mayor LaToya Cantrell reflects on a successful, historic visit from Spanish royalty.
"I can't say enough about King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia and what their visit meant to our great city, especially during this historic time as we celebrate our Tricentennial. We talked about further strengthening the ties between New Orleans and Spain, and I think their visit was a critical first step in the right direction," Mayor Cantrell said. "We are actively pursuing a sister-city partnership in addition to a mayoral exchange program."
The private plane carrying the King and Queen landed in New Orleans Thursday (June 14) evening. Their Majesties were welcomed with the tunes "Stars and Stripes Forever" and "When the Saints Go Marching In" by the lively Pinstripe Brass Band, joined by The Young Men Olympians Jr. Benevolent Association, Inc.
They were greeted on the red carpet by Mayor Cantrell, Gov. John Bel Edwards, Mrs. Donna Edwards, U.S. Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain Richard Duke Buchan III, and other notable dignitaries.
Friday's official welcome ceremony took place at Gallier Hall, where dozens of local and Spanish press were in attendance along with roughly 100 invited guests. Mayor Cantrell presented the King and Queen of Spain with a key to the city and unveiled a plaque that will remain at Gallier Hall. During his remarks, King Felipe VI expressed his gratitude in both English and Spanish: "Thank you, Madam Mayor, for your heartfelt welcome to New Orleans. I am sure you are perfectly aware of just how much this visit means to the Queen, and to me. For this very reason, please accept our sincere thanks for presenting us with the key to the city. It is a deeply touching gesture of friendship and hospitality. We also wish you every success in the performance of your new duties."
He then addressed Gov. Edwards: "And thanks to you, Governor, for your kind words of welcome. For the people of Spain, to speak of Louisiana is to conjure up images of its majestic Mississippi River, and of the peoples who have built this great state, and this illustrious city, at the river's mouth."
Following the ceremony, there was a private gift exchange, followed by a luncheon hosted by the 2018 NOLA Foundation. Mayor Cantrell delivered brief welcoming remarks, followed by a toast from Governor Edwards and from His Majesty. Lunch, prepared by prominent chefs Emeril Lagasse and Nina Compton, was served in the Gallier Ballroom, where Mayor Cantrell delivered the closing toast.
Friday afternoon, Mayor Cantrell, Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser, and Mr. Jose Ignacio Sanchez Galan, Chairman and CEO of Iberdrola, greeted the King and Queen at Jackson Square where they received a private tour of the "Recovered Memories" exhibit at the Cabildo. From there, the group walked next door, past a cheering crowd, to St. Louis Cathedral, where they were greeted by Archbishop Gregory Aymond for a brief private tour.
The royal visit culminated in an event Saturday morning at the New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA). The King and Queen were greeted by Mayor Cantrell, NOMA Director Susan Taylor, NOMA Deputy Director Ann Banos, and Mark Romig, President and CEO of the New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corporation. Notable guests included New Orleans Saints owner Gayle Benson, U.S. Congressman Steve Scalise, former New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu, members of the New Orleans City Council, and many others. The royal couple was treated to four cultural performances. Clarinetist Dr. Michael White performed "Panama"; the Monogram Hunters performed a chant; and Dr. White also performed "Andalusian Strut." For the final act, Dr. Brice Miller, Director of the Office of Cultural Economy, played his horn and led the crowd in "When the Saints Go Marching In" as Dr. White sang the song in both English and Spanish, much to the crowd's delight.
During the ensuing reception, Their Majesties were escorted to the airport, where they bid farewell to Mayor Cantrell and headed off to San Antonio.

VENDOR OF THE WEEK:Things 'n Stuff
With the addition of the Rivertown Farmers Market to the CCFM family came the addition of several great new vendors to our network that we'll highlight here over the next few weeks. Things 'n Stuff sells 40+ varieties of jams, jellies and preserves, made from local produce whenever possible which allows some great specialties like mayhaw jelly and a crawfish boil pepper jelly. Garlic jelly may sound like an odd combination of savory and sweet, but is surprisingly addictive and pickles and salsas are fresh and delicious. Arts and crafts are also allowed at the Rivertown Farmers Market to a limited extent and another endeavor of Things 'n Stuff falls into this category. Here you'll find quilted bowl cozies, which you nestle a bowl into and protects your hands from hot microwave dishes. You'll also find quilted casserole covers, tortilla warmers and a variety of other items, in a wide variety of fabrics. Custom orders are welcome. Find them every Saturday at the Rivertown Farmers Market from 9-1.
TUESDAY'S GREEN PLATE SPECIAL:South of Eden
South of Eden is a plant based pop-up and new CCFM vendor. Founded in the belief that food should be tasty, satisfying and nourishing, everything on offer is created to be just that. As the Green Plate Special vendor, we'll be treated to breakfast and lunch made from entirely whole ingredients (SOE uses no commercially processed foods, although she makes her own nut milks and cheeses, nut and grain flours, etc.), locally sourced when possible. You can also pick up vegan breads, sauces, cheeses, dips, jams, ferments and more at the GPS table in June, and then at their regular market table at the Tuesday Uptown Market beginning in July. What a great addition to the market!
RECIPE OF THE WEEK:Fried Okra and Heirloom Tomato Salad
Yup, okra is here, and we are ready to dig in. Check out this recipe from Louisiana Cookin that combines crispy fried okra with sweet heirloom tomatoes, both of which are available at all five CCFM markets. This recipe has them topped them with a rich, lemony mix of crème fraîche and buttermilk for a distinctly Southern taste that captures the flavors of the season. Find buttermilk at the Country Girls Creamery or cheat and make your own by adding a tablespoon of either lemon juice or white vinegar to a cup of milk and allowing it to sit for ten minutes to curdle.

The Creole Tomato
Each year, the arrival of summer in New Orleans is marked with the first Creole tomatoes served on local tables. No other tomato stirs as much excitement among New Orleans' locals and chefs as does the Creole tomato. "Creoles" are only grown in a unique area along the Mississippi River in Plaquemines and St. Bernard parishes, just south of New Orleans. This special area offers the needed alluvial soil to produce the distinguishable taste. One of the greatest culinary rewards of living in, or visiting, southern Louisiana is the pleasure of enjoying Creole tomatoes at the start of each summer.

About Best Buy Teen Tech Centers
Best Buy Teen Tech Centers are a place where teens can develop critical skills through hands-on activities that explore their interests in programming, filmmaking, music production and design. Woodrow's Pit Cook Bab-B-Q Sandwiches
Pork shoulder smoked overnight in Freedom Hills, Alabama
Elberta County Peach Pie
Peaches from the one and old Peach Pit Orchard
Janie Treeborne's Homemade Sweet Tea
Janie Treeborne lives on an orchard at the edge of Elberta, Alabama, and in time, she has become its keeper. A place where conquistadors once walked, and where the peaches they left behind now grow, Elberta has seen fierce battles, violent storms, and frantic change-and when the town is once again threatened from without, Janie realizes it won't withstand much more. So she tells the story of its people: of Hugh, her granddaddy, determined to preserve Elberta's legacy at any cost; of his wife, Maybelle, the postmaster, whose sudden death throws the town into chaos; of her lover, Lee Malone, a black orchardist harvesting from a land where he is less than welcome; of the time when Janie kidnapped her own Hollywood-obsessed aunt and tore the wrong people apart.
As the world closes in on Elberta, Caleb Johnson's debut novel lifts the veil and offers one last glimpse. Treeborne is a celebration and a reminder: of how the past gets mixed up in thoughts of the future; of how home is a story as much as a place.
This book is available in hardcover ($26.00).

Discusses The History of Higher Education in Louisiana
METAIRIE - Curtis Manning, PhD, discusses his book The History of Higher Education in Louisiana, at 7 p.m., Tuesday, June 19, at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon, Metairie.
This event is free of charge and is open to the public. There is no registration.
Starting with the cultural foundation of the French and Spanish inhabitants, the state - and its colleges and universities - took a path unlike the rest of America. From the mid-nineteenth century beginnings, Louisiana higher education expanded as the state grew, unlike many other parts of the country.
Louisiana governors, especially Huey P. Long, played a central role in the establishment and reform of colleges and universities. Louisiana State University and Tulane University emerged as the most important and influential universities in the state, and Louisiana leaders consciously set up a "dual system" of higher education, segregated by race.
Curtis Manning is a professor of history at Nunez Community College. He has spent 17 years in Louisiana higher education, also serving as Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs and interim Vice Chancellor of Academic and Student Affairs.
Dr. Manning earned his doctoral and master's degrees in Higher Education Administration from the University of New Orleans, a master's degree in History from the University of Alabama-Birmingham and a bachelor's degree in History and Russian and Soviet Studies from the University of the South. Before working in higher education, Dr. Manning worked, lived and traveled in the countries of the former Soviet Union.
For more information regarding this presentation, contact Chris Smith, Manager of Adult Programming for the library, at 504-889-8143 or wcsmith@jefferson.lib.la.us.

"The Louisiana Department of Insurance Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) is excited about the chance to empower, educate and assist Medicare-eligible individuals, their families, and caregivers in making better informed health insurance decisions that optimize access to care and benefits through free, unbiased one-on-one counseling," said Vicki Dufrene, Director of SHIIP.
We are delighted that SHIIP has committed to providing a counselor at the COAST Slidell Center on the third Wednesday of each month from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. We hope this will be an opportunity for seniors to come to our Slidell center and make new friends and enjoy the activities offered at the center," said Julie Agan, Executive Director of COAST.
The counselor is Medicare certified and able to explain Original Medicare, Medicare Supplement Insurance, Medicare Advantage plans and Medicare Part D. The counselor will be able to complete Medicare Part D comparisons and enrollment, assist with claims issues and explain Medicare enrollment periods.
"Our goal with this partnership is to make a difference in the lives of the population we serve by providing trusted local counselors who are able to help an individual better understand Medicare," said Dufrene.
COAST operates seven senior centers throughout St. Tammany Parish, and provides various services to seniors, like nutrition, transportation, community involvement and information on outside resources, designed to maintain and enhance their quality of life, wellbeing and independence. To learn more about COAST and their services, call (985) 892-0377, and you can find them on coastseniors.org.

Free Wednesday Tasting of Campania wines by Antonio Caggiano, 5:30 to 7:30 - One of the most memorable visits in the history of my wine travels was spending the afternoon with Antonio Caggiano, his son Pino, winery manager Angelo and a group of friends from New Orleans. We spent quite a bit of time there, as our four course "light lunch" was over 2 hours outside looking at the Aglianico vineyards. An incredibly comfortable relaxing afternoon with Antonio, Angelo, Pino and great friends that somehow ended with all of us smoking cigars...But it was just us, in the middle of nowhere in this gorgeous place with truly special people who love wine, food and life - I've always loved the Caggiano wines but after meeting the people behind them, I'm forever a fan! Thanks to James Moises and Bizou Wines, they are back in the market and I am super excited to show them this Wednesday. You'll taste 3 of his award-winning whites and his flagship Taurasi made from Aglianico. If you'd like a little something to snack on with your wine, resident cheesemonger Casey Foote will have a special cheese plate available for $10. These wines truly set the bar for me in terms of quality wines from Campania. No reservations required, but if you'd like to reserve a place to sit or a cheese plate, you can do so here. All wines are available for purchase to drink at Swirl or you can take them to go.
Friday Free For All, New Italian Wines from Marc Degrazia with Bizou Wines, June 22, 6-8pm A whole new boatload, literally, of incredibly delicious and affordable Italian wines has just arrived and we can't wait to share them with you! This tasting is free and no reservations are required.
Special Event! Aperitivo Hour, Saturday June 23, 4-6pm Each time we visit Italy I always seek out great spots for an Aperitivo. In towns all over Italy, the evening hours before dinner are the time to get together with friends or family for a light snack and a drink to stimulate the appetite. The signature drink is the popular bright orange Aperol Spritz (pronounced "spreeetz!" in Italy) but also sparkling and still wines. The drinks are accompanied by olives, breadsticks, chips, etc that come complimentary with your drink during Aperitivo hour. So we will have a special "Aperitivo" menu on Saturday, joined by the typical snacks when you order. If all goes well, this will be a regular addition each Saturday and who knows, maybe during the week too! And FYI, our regular happy hour 1/2 priced drink menu will be available as usual, minus the snacks...All wines by the glass are half off!
Legendary New Orleans musician AL "Carnival Time" Johnson will celebrate his 79th birthday this Wednesday from 5PM to 8PM at Buffa's. Al's appearances at Buffa's on 12th Night to ring in Carnival Season have become as much of a Mardi Gras tradition as King Cake, so it is only appropriate we share the space for his birthday. The party is open to the public and will feature happy hour drink prices. Come help us wish Al a Happy Birthday!
New Orleans always attracts the best music acts, and this summer is no different. Don't miss out on all the headliners coming to town from June to September!
The Eagles, June 20 at the Smoothie King Center
Daryl Hall & John Oates, June 28 at the Smoothie King Center
Beyoncé and Jay Z, September 13 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome
Taylor Swift, September 22 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome
As June draws to a close, grab your gal pals to celebrate female empowerment. From June 21 to 23, Festigals brings professional development conferences, shopping, and cocktail sipping to the Crescent City. Don't miss two of the most spectacular events: The Stiletto Stroll and the Bodacious Bras for a Cause Brunch.
Acadiana comes to the city when The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation hosts the Louisiana Cajun-Zydeco Festival in Armstrong Park. This two-day, free fest will make you want to hop out of your seat and get down with the best of them. Work on your Cajun two-step! And let's not forget all of the Acadiana food staples: boudin, alligator, and, of course, fresh Louisiana seafood.
Every year, ESSENCE Fest brings a wave of big-name acts to the Superdome. This year's headliners include Janet Jackson, Mary J. Blige, Erykah Badu, Snoop Dogg, and more. An annual celebration of black culture, the festival also holds smaller performances as well as workshops, an empowerment speech series, and much more. Bonus: all of the daytime programming at Essence Fest is free!
Inspired by the world-famous Encierro of Pamplona, Spain, New Orleans' Running of the Bulls begins its events on Friday, July 13. Participants take to the French Quarter streets in red and white ensembles as they try to avoid getting hit by a bull. Don't worry though, there aren't any real bulls here. Instead, roller derby team the Big Easy Rollergirls (and their Wiffle ball bats) chase guests around town.
New Orleans celebrates its French roots every July with a tribute to Bastille Day. Held at the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Fete includes local musicians, French cooking demonstrations, a dog costume contest, and plenty of wine and cheese.
New Orleans couldn't pass Louis Armstrong's birthday without a grand affair. Held at the New Orleans Jazz Museum at the Mint, Satchmo Summerfest celebrates Pops' birthday with music, food, and a second-line parade appropriately dubbed the "Satchmo Strut." The fest also includes seminars, discussions, and speakers focused on Louis Armstrong and his contributions to New Orleans - and the world.
Don't skip your laundry this week, y'all. Every year, a mass of white clothing takes over Julia Street as guests explore art galleries in the Warehouse District. What started as a way to revive the downtown's art district, has grown into one of the summer's most anticipated events. Channeling days gone by in New Orleans where residents donned white to reflect the summer sun, guests roam in an out of art galleries with handheld fans in tow on this evening celebration.
Don't put those linens in the wash just yet because Dirty Linen Night rolls through the French Quarter the following weekend! Join in as folks stroll down Royal Street to see the art galleries. Shopkeepers give away free dirty martinis and dirty rice too!

PALMETTO BUG STOMPERSAT OGDEN AFTER HOURS
/// June 21 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Led by Washboard Chaz Leary, the Palmetto Bug Stompers are one of the finest purveyors of traditional and New Orleans jazz. With a wide and varied background of musical influences, the Palmetto Bug Stompers get the crowd up and make them swing. The band is Robert Snow on acoustic bass, John Rodli on guitar and vocals, Will Smith on trumpet and vocals, Paul Robertson on trombone, Bruce Brackman on clarinet and Washboard Chaz on washboard and vocals. Washboard Chaz has achieved international recognition in acoustic country blues and played professionally with a wide array of world class musicians both on the stage and in the recording studio. His reputation as a delightful stage presence has brought him wide popularity. Besides the Palmetto Stompers, Chaz currently performs with the Tin Men, the Washboard Chaz Blues Trio and his latest project, Washboard Rodeo.
A native New Yorker, Doris Ulmann traveled through the American South from Appalachia and the Sea Islands of South Carolina to the deep South and New Orleans. Along the way, she photographed the landscape, both natural and built, and made dignified portraits of the region's people. Her work is closely associated with the pictorialist and the social realism movements of the early 20th century.
Photographing with a large cumbersome camera, she made lush and dreamy portraits of craftsmen, musicians and other tradespeople throughout the South. This exhibition will feature photographs loaned by A Gallery for Fine Photography, Joshua Mann Pailet, Jessica Lange and Roger H. Ogden.

2018 LOUISIANA CAJUN-ZYDECO FESTIVAL
"This festival contains the greatest collection of Cajun and zydeco artists for any festival in the city and perhaps the state." -- Charles Laborde, host of "Lache Pas," the weekly Cajun and zydeco show heard on WWOZ-FM
Welcome to the 2018 Louisiana Cajun-Zydeco Festival - the 12th annual edition of New Orleans' only festival that features exclusively Cajun and zydeco music. The festival takes place Saturday, June 23, and Sunday, June 24, in Armstrong Park in downtown New Orleans. Admission is free.
Once again, we'll present a stellar lineup that includes many of Louisiana's most beloved Cajun and zydeco performers. Newly-crowned Grammy winners (and CZF regulars) The Lost Bayou Ramblers will headline the festival this year, as will Grammy nominee Dwayne Dopsie & the Zydeco Hellraisers.
We also have a special focus this year on "trail ride" music, featuring the hot zydeco popular on the bridle paths of southwest Louisiana: Li'l Nathan & the Zydeco Big Timers, Chris Ardoin & NuStep and Corey Ledet & His Zydeco Band, all of them hot on the trail riding circuit, will be among this year's performers.
As always, we'll have great seafood, a large arts market, activities for kids and lots of misting fans to keep everyone cool.
LOCATION The Louisiana Cajun-Zydeco Festival takes place in Louis Armstrong Park (701 N. Rampart Street, New Orleans, LA 70116).
HOW TO GET THERE The Regional Transit Authority (RTA) bus route No. 91 (Jackson-Esplanade) passes directly in front of Armstrong Park. So does the Rampart-St. Claude streetcar. See the route map here. The fare is $1.25 each way.
BICYCLE VALET Our friends at Bike Easy will set up a bicycle valet at Armstrong Park, so you can ride to the festival and park it safely - for free!
PARKING Parking is available at the Basin Street Station parking lot (501 Basin St.) for $20 per day.

With 10 vendors of savory entrees and four for cool and refreshing desserts, there's a taste of something for everyone. For the complete list of food vendors and their menus, see here.
KEEP COOL Yes, it's hot in New Orleans in June. But we'll help you keep your cool as you boot-scoot to the two-step beat with a half-dozen misting fans provided by our friends at Mist Works.
KIDS ACTIVITIES We're setting up a Kids Tent so parents can let their children enjoy supervised creative activities while they boogie to the music. Even better, we are partnering with the artisan craft vendors at the festival to lead instructional workshops for the kids. The Kids Craft Tent closts at 6 p.m. both days of the festival.

Monsieur Beaucaire borrows its title and inspiration from a silent Rudolph Valentino romance-drama (which was in turn based on a novel and play by Booth Tarkington), but transforms the original premise of a duke disguised as a barber into a farce about a real barber and a duke who mask the barber as a nobleman for political gain.
This comedy, directed by George Marshall, stars Bob Hope as the title character, the barber of King Louis XV of France, and Joan Caulfield as the beautiful chambermaid who steals his heart.

The story of how Bob Hope gave levity and laughter to troops during one of the most brutal conflicts in human history is a crucial component of the history of the war-and a demonstration of how humanity can shine through in the darkest of times. The National WWII Museum is proud to have this program supported by the Bob & Dolores Hope Foundation.
