Consequence #4

The Consequence of Rejection

Rate this book
You know the universe is trying to tell you something when you get struck by lightning, but only after getting hit on by the elderly, almost getting ran over by a semi, and running into the one who got away.
Why do they say it like that anyway?
Like I accidentally lost her when she was the one that got in the car with my best friend and left me.
The day after I proposed.
We were eighteen.
I wanted forever.
She didn't.
It's been ten years.
I tried to move on, tried to get married, had that same wedding crashed by my now best friend who says the only way for me to stop pissing off the universe, is to gain closure with the one woman I can't forget.
So I do it.
I embark on a journey down memory lane that not only lands me in prison but on the receiving end of a fist fight in front of the entire town, this naturally happens after drunken pool sex, climbing the same girls window, and getting threatened at gunpoint by her father.
To say the universe is trying to tell me something anything, is a giant understatement.
I just hope I survive the message.
And then, I hope I survive her--again.

How can there be already be two and one star ratings, when this book doesn't even has a release date yet? Heck, I don't get some people!

I just know that I want this really, really bad. These books are too hilarious. Can't wait.

Thoughts after reading, April 5, 2018:
Though I was entertained by Max, and love Jason, sadly this was my least favorite of the series. The whole reasoning behind the 10 YEARS APART were pretty lacking. Yeah, I get being a confused 18 year old. Been there. But Maddy never even discussed anything with Jason, and I found her lacking. In the years since leaving, she's had plenty of time to contact him. I particularly didn't like her coming back into town, and then keep getting mad at Jason because of her insecurities. Maddy seriously annoyed me. But what I found most lacking in this book was depth. The whole story was a bit superficial. Yes, it's a rom-com series, and I love the comedy. I found myself literally laughing out loud. But when you're resolving/reigniting a 10 year gap in a relationship, I need to see why these two should be together. It took forever just to see a real conversation between Jason and Maddy . And the thing is, I know RVD can go deeper. She delves chasm-deep in her Eagle Elite series. I just needed more here, because I'm still not a Maddy fan. I loved seeing the other couples, though, and I've loved this series. If this book is your first experience with this series, I highly recommend reading the other books, which are much better.

Initial thoughts, pre-read, February 15, 2016:
Ok, I'm counting on RVD making this another great rom-com, because the set-up with Jason and a curly redhead who broke his heart and left with their best friend, and now has a kid and has moved back into town... has me a bit worried. Okay, a lot worried. The epilogue from 'Seduction' hurt my heart for poor, klutzy Jason. RVD, please make Jason happy!!! I'm counting on you to make this right!!

Maddy Summers, the girl that rejected and left Jason Caro ten years ago is back in town and riling him up again. She was his best friend and first love. But the town might not be big enough for the both of them since their unresolved emotions and anger are just getting more and more explosive.

And when all of the rational girls are away, and only their husbands, Colt, Reid, and crazy Max are available for advice on dealing with her, a plan is formed. But plans spearheaded by Max are not usually smart or safe.

Poor Jason. His life has been one big mess since Maddy left him with a broken heart and hen he has been cursed by subsequent crazy exes, injuries, and accidents. He never knows when he is going to get blindsided by the universe or become of the victim of one of Max's brilliant ideas.

But making friends with the ex-love/enemy, getting closure and trying to move on seems like a fair plan. Spend the weekend following their memories and rekindling friendship. When Max makes sense it is even scarier. And bring his friends' wives back into the equation and more adventures and it is pure chaos.

These characters seriously make my head spin. My brain is tired. They are so over the top and crazy, especially Max. But at the same time, I am attached to them and their brand of crazy. And I just wanted Jason to finally make the right choices when it came to Maddy. He had good intentions a lot of the time, but was a master at doing the wrong thing at the wrong time. And she made her share of mistakes too. I just wanted to smack sense into both of them at times or lock them in a room til they communicated effectively. They had the potential to be so good together, but had so many unresolved feelings and past pain between them...and some outside interference.

This is a fast-paced, sometimes insane, rom-com, second-chance love story. It has the big personalities, wacky interludes, and big gestures that this series is known for. And we finally get to see poor, harassed, good guy Jason find what he has been missing. He just has to get over himself, his past, and survive his friends long enough to take his chance. And of course figure out if the universe for or against this union...

I was gifted a copy.

Title: The Consequences Of Rejection
Author: Rachel Van Dyken
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publication Date : March 26, 2018

ARC

If you've been reading my reviews for a while now, you'll know that I Love Rachel Van Dyken's books... She's my one-click/ don't question it buy.
The consequences of rejection was sadly not my favorite.
Don't get me wrong, I will continue to read RVD's books but I didn't feel this book as much as I'd normal would havr for her other books. The Consequences of Rejection is a second chance romance but sadly for me, it lacked the emotions for the readers aka me, to feel connected to the characters. I just felt that Maddy's reason for leaving was stupid and the whole shebang could have been more understandable if she has just talked with Jason.

So, simply put, the reason for her leaving was pretty anti-climactic.
The star of the book was Max! Talk about secondary characters stealing the spotlight!
Having said that, this book is filled with love and humour and you can't for one second doubt that Jason Caro is TRULY DEEPLY in love with Maddy. His love for her even after all these years is beautiful and endearing.

Anyway, this book hasn't scarred me from ever reaching for another RVD book. I still love her and her books!

The Consequence of Rejection (Consequence #4) by Rachel Van Dyken.

4.5 Stars

I really wished I had read the previous books in this series. Starting with the latest release left me feeling I was missing out. Please don’t misunderstand me because I enjoyed this book very much. In fact, I plan to go back and read the books I missed out on. While this can be read as a standalone, I personally felt that I would have loved this book instead of just liking it had I read the others first. The secondary characters, who all had their stories told in the previous titles, were so much fun. I couldn’t stop laughing. There was a strong camaraderie and dynamic between them which is why I felt a little like the third wheel.

Ok, so in typical RVD style, her romantic comedies are some of my favorites. I have read many of her books; needless to say I am a huge fan. I will always come back for more and I am always excited to see what Rachel releases next. If you haven’t read anything by her yet, start with her romcoms.

Jason and Maddy…….
To say that Jason has had some bad luck in his life is the understatement of a lifetime. This man has been through heartbreak, is highly accident prone and an all around magnet for the worst case scenarios. I cringed at the thought of what could possibly happen next; it seemed like nothing was off limits. That said, he was a very strong and very likable character. Sure, it took him some time to get past his hurts, and there were many, but he tried. Actually, Jason just resolved himself to the belief that good things did not happen to him.

Maddy was his high school girlfriend and the love of his life. He loved her so much that he proposed to her at their HS graduation.

Maddy said, “yes.”

Unfortunately, she didn’t mean it. Maddy did love Jason but she felt they were too young to get married. Instead of talking with him, trusting in him, she left. I thought I would hate Maddy for that. And I admit, I was not her biggest fan, but over the course of the book, she grew on me. Did I approve of her choices? That would be a huge “no.” But I did understand them.

Ten years later, Maddy is back in town. Jason doesn’t trust her, doesn’t want to have anything to do with her. Maddy understands that she probably has no chance of winning Jason back. It takes the crazy antics of some of Jason's best friends to help Maddy and Jason find their way back to each other. Manipulation at its funniest! I am not going to spoil any of this for you by giving you details. But if you’ve read the previous books, you know you’re in for a fun ride. I enjoyed this book very much and as I said earlier, I plan to back-read this series. I am looking forward to that!

This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. :)

There's a really a beauty when it comes to romcom and a book doesn't need to be heart tugging and emotional to be compelling. This is true and I just had that with Rachel Van Dyken's The Consequence of Rejection. Gahd! This book did me so good, I'm still on a high with this second chance laugh out loud journey with a heart.

I have loved Rachel Van Dyken's works the moment I read her mafia series. Since then, I was so obsessed with her words because it felt like home. The Consequence of Rejection is no different. It might not be of the same trope with her other works, but the book screams RVD rocks from start to finish. It tested my sanity to a whole new level of crazy but I was liking it to the point that I devoured it wholeheartedly.

Jason and Maddy is my kind of person. Their friends? So just like my friends. All of them took me to a ride I will never forget soon. I was having my moment with them, full belly laugh and all. It was borderline genuis and crazy at the same time but that's what made this book good enought to read and zone into. It made my day. It made my weekend actually because despite how OTT other scenes were, I could not deny the fact that the book struck me straight to the heart.

More than the belly laugh I have with this book is the heart that seeped through the pages. The angst of second chances of love was undeniable. With humor coating it, everything was just perfect and MORE.

Overall, I recommend this book. If you dig in fast paced book, with plenty of laugh out loud scenes and a heart, then this book is for you.

Rachel Van Dyken is an author so many of my reader friends seem to enjoy, meaning she has spent a lot of time on my to-read list. Recently, I have been trying to expose myself to as many of these authors as possible, trying to improve my knowledge when it comes to the more popular romance authors. Thus, I decided to dive into The Consequence of Rejection.

It wasn’t a case of picking any Rachel Van Dyken book simply to say I have read one – no, this book did appeal to me. I was intrigued by the synopsis, excited to see what the book gave. Although it is book four in the Consequence series, it works perfectly fine as a standalone, thus I jumped straight in.

I’m going to be honest by saying my feelings towards this one were rather back and forth throughout the book. In the end, it earned a three-point-five-star rating. I contemplated rounding this one up, but in the end rounded down. I think the biggest reason for this is that others had me expecting so much more from Rachel Van Dyken.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying this is a bad book. I did have fun with it. It simply wasn’t what I had been expecting. I went in expecting a fun rom-com, and whilst there was humour to be found, I feel as though the actual story was buried under too many forced ‘entertaining’ moments.

I did chuckle, I cannot deny that. However, I also found myself annoyed by some of the things that occurred. Humour is good, I love humour in my romance books, but this one felt forced at times. Certain elements felt unnecessary, as though they were put in for the sake of it. Then, elements I would have liked to see more of – the emotional stuff, the more serious stuff, the relationship on a deeper level – were brushed over so we could get back to the needless humour (needless in the sense it did not add anything to the overall story, and if it was cut out the story would not be affected in any way).

I will be reading more Rachel Van Dyken in the future, as this one did have me turning the pages – I simply did not enjoy this one to the level I had been expecting.

I received an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The fourth book in this series deals with Jason and his longtime crush Maddy. Truthfully I dove in this book, without having the slightest idea what to expect. Angst? Maybe? Instead, I found a hilarious plot, almost crazy side characters and lots of humorous moments. To be honest Jason was a little too slow-minded and silly for my taste, while Max was the craziest character I've ever encountered!

This book is light and a fast read and while it can be read as a stand-alone I do recommend reading the other books too. At least that's what I did.

Jason doesn't like to share, and sometimes gets violent when others ogle what's his, “that…” he put the shirt over my head, “… and if I see one more married man check you out, I’m grabbing my gun.” Jason really has crap luck, "I’d lost track of a lot of things in the past week. My truck door for one — my fault. My heart — her fault. My balls — the universe’s fault, not to mention an unfortunate run-in with lightning." I enjoyed this book, Max was still freakin' crazy the man it seemed still drove everyone bonkers. I liked Jason, his luck is just extremely crappy.

ARC received for an honest review

Yes! Jason's story is finally here, and the Consequences gang are all back together!

I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about the one who broke Jason's heart coming back. I was conflicted. I love a good second chance romance, but I hated what she did to him back in the day.

I shouldn't have worried, Ms Van Dyken brought things full circle with The Consequence of Rejection.

I laughed, I cried, I laughed some more. My heart hurt for Jason as he tries to find his way back to his love, and she frustrated me so much, the way she left him but expected him to just forget things. She still felt a little juvenile at times, but I guess that is because of the trip down memory lane.

My main man Max is back big time in story. Oh boy, he had me in stitches though I could completely understand how he could be annoying to those around him! When he, Colt, Reid and Jason are all together - well, you never know what is going to happen next!

And you never know what the consequences will be when you reconnect with your long lost love.

Thank you Ms Van Dyken for another wonderful new book.

I can't wait to see what comes next.

Everyone is in for some fun fun fun with the gang all back together!

Jason just hasn’t been able to catch a break. His friends are all married and here he is still trying to recover from the one who got away but when Maddy shows back up in town after leaving him standing on the side of the road wondering what just happened, it’s not his love but his anger towards the one girl he thought he would spend forever with that takes center stage.

You really fell for Jason. He’s been through so much. And Maddy she has so much guilt but she honestly thinks she did the right thing.

This book is full of fun and hope. A great second chance book that will have you laughing and praying that love conquers all in the end.

I am really not sure there isn't a genre out there that Rachel can't write. I may have only read two of these books so far, but I love this series so much. It is hilarious!!

The Consequence of Rejection is Jason Caro and Maddy Summers' story. Maddy walked away from Jason 10 years ago right after he proposed and never looked back. Jason has been trying to mend his broken heart ever since - was even engaged at one point. But has never been the same since high school when Maddy crushed his dreams and took his heart with her.

So you would think would be a sappy love story but let me tell you it is anything but that! Rachel made me love these characters. Jason has the had the worse luck lately and things don't get any better when Maddy quietly returns to town. However, Jason's friends are fed up with his hum drum attitude and want to try and change his luck now that Maddy has returned.

I won't give you any details of what the boys have up theirs sleeves (really just Max), but you are in for some great belly laughs with this one. When the girls are whisked away for a spa weekend, Max recruits Reid and Colt to assist him in his idiotic, yet at times genius plan, to help Jason get over Maddy so he can move. Let's just say that things are about to get really fun and enjoyable!

Rachel laid out a great story with some amazing characters. Not only do I love the main characters, but the secondary character are just as amazing and great. They all play an integral role in this one and just makes everything all come together. And Rachel really has me wanting to go back and read Max's book now.

Another awesome story to add to this series. Great series with amazing characters. Each story will have you laughing so hard and wanting to know each of the other characters' stories.

If there's one series that I have to admit that makes me LOL every time, then that is Rachel Van Dyken's Consequences series. The mischief and mayhem that the characters get up to are enough to make readers laugh out loud and then, of course, their's Max Emory. Max has got to be my favorite character of the Consequences series as he is a hard case character and does what he wants, just because he can. I was hoping that this was going to be Jason's story and was excited when I started reading it. Jason is Milo's brother and remembers he was the one with the evil bride to be aka Jane aka The Woman whose name we do not speak. This was as we are about to learn the second time Jason was about to walk down the aisle as when he was in high school, he proposed on graduation day to his then-girlfriend Maddy. She turned him down and then left town with his ex-best friend and arch-enemy. Now Ten years later, she is back in town and living with her parents and guess where they live - right next door to Jason. To move on with his life, Jason decides to give Maddy a chance and recreate their firsts so he can once and for all, get her out of his system and move on. It won't be easy though as the feeling that they both have for one another is still strong and fiery and if Jason's friends and family have anything to do about it, they won't let him off the hook that easy. The Consequence of Rejection was another awesome fun-packed and hilarious read by Rachel Van Dyken and a great way to finish off the series for the group of friends as they now all have their own HEA's.

If you are not familiar with the series like me, go and read first Max's book. That guy is hilarious and he was also the best part of this book. I swear every single time I laughed when I was reading this book was because of him. I simply loved him and I after I finish typing this review I will go and buy his book.

Second chance romances are not my thing and that was the reason I began my review with Max and not the happy couple from this book. Before you say anything, you should know that Rachel Van Dyken is one of the authors whose books I blindly read. They might tear my heart out sometimes, but I know I will love the ride. I have loved most of her books and I was willing to give a book that belongs in the second chances genre a chance. The result was me enjoying the book, but not loving it.

Jason and Maddy were a couple back in high school and Jason ended up proposing to her when they graduated. She accepted but broke his heart a couple of hours later. She broke things off and left the town with another man. She wasn't cheating on him though. Now, ten years later, she is back and they are trying to work things out as friends until Max gets a crazy idea. That guy should come with ten warnings.

To be honest, I couldn't get mad at Maddy for leaving Jason when both of them were 18. I hated the way she did it and practically left without explanation, but I understood her reason and fears. I wish she had stayed and talked about what was bothering her though. For me, she wasn't the bad guy.

Overall, the book was more good. I feel like Jason and Maddy's relationship throughout the book was like a machine that needed oil and never got it. Their flow wasn't smooth and they hit too many bumps. Still, that didn't make the book bad. Not from the way I see it. I enjoyed it and I laughed at Max's crazy plans. Each chapter began with a quote from the book he published and made him famous and they were fun. I know this is not his book, but for me, he stole the show.

I've had a crush on Jason since the first installment of this series and was happy to see him finally get a chance for a HEA. Of course, anything involving Max and this lively cast of characters is not going to be easy. There are hilarious antics and light-hearted, fun moments I always expect from RVD. It was nice visiting moments from Jason and Maddy's past, but this book is definitely present driven. It is the perfect mixture of romance and longing, sprinkled with comedic moments.

The book is a fast paced, easy read. I felt sad it was over so quickly; I could have easily read another 50-100 pages. I hope this delightful group shows up again in a crossover or in some other fashion; I can't imagine saying goodbye.

Thank you to RVD for my advanced review copy!

I have been waiting for this one forever...at least it seems...Jason...oh poor unlucky Jason is here!

Mayhem, laughs and Max...is well...he’s Max. I adore these characters! I adore the angst and the hilarious laughs I was so happy to be back with them.

These are some of my favorite RVD people! I swear Max drives me batcrap crazy but I love him!

Jason’s story will have you laughing till your side hurts and cringing from his mishaps! But your going to love his story!

Colt, Milo, Max, Reid and Jason are my kind of people! I’m going to miss them and the laughs they gave me! If this is the ending to them I sad to see them go but it’s a perfect conclusion!

Plus if you don’t know them, you can start with this and not be lost but it’s best to read each and every book cause they are all FABULOUS!

Poor Jason, I could have cried for Jason. The woman he loved and wanted to start a family with rejected him after his proposal and left town with his best friend.
10 years later they meet up when she returns to town, I have to say I did not like her actions towards Jason. She acted like he did something wrong and not herself. You do find out why and it’s understandable but still hurt him nonetheless.
His friends are hilarious great bunch of guys, it did annoy me they try to get him back to Maddy because I felt with what she did to him she didn’t deserve him but it was done out of love. They wanted to help him find closure and move on.
I now have to go and read the other boy's stories especially Max because it was an adorable idiot genius.

The Consequence of Rejection by Rachel Van Dyken
“Laugh out loud good, 5 stars”

RVD’s Consequences books have always been my favorite of mine when it comes to her. There is something about the extreme ridiculousness that takes place in these stories that you can’t help but laugh at. They are almost to the point of making you think one person cannot have such bad luck and yet they do! In The Consequence of Rejection you have all the players you’ve fallen for in the last three books plus now Jason’s forever girl and it’s a blast. If you need a laugh scroll up and one click now.
Jason thought he had forever when he was younger only to see her taillights as she left town. Ever since life has basically been down hill for him and his string of bad luck. Now the girl he loved is a woman and she’s back. With a little help from Max and the gang and one meddling old lady he may get the her back. Or he could end up dead, you never know with his luck.
Maddy ran because she was scared. She was scared of feeling her big feelings for Jason and scared of becoming someone she didn’t want to become. Now she’s home and she’s faced with the reality that she never got over Jason. Will she try her hardest to dodge the guy next door or will she try her hardest to get him back? You won’t know until you dive in.

I love this series so much, and had been waiting anxiously for Jason's story! These books are so fun to read. This one was a little more emotional than the previous 3 books, but it still had all the humor and craziness you'd come to expect from this gang. Seriously, these books are some of the funniest I've ever read!
Jason and Maddy shared so much history, it was sad that her insecurities separated them for so long. But even with all the years between them you knew they were "it" for each other. When it was just the two of them, recreating memories, or just getting to know their adult selves, it was really sweet.
I just adore all of these characters, and if this is it for the series I'm so sad to see it come to an end! And if it is the end, I wish the epilogue had included povs from all the couples. I would have liked more of a peek into Colton and Miles life, especially!
I wold LOVE to see these books end up on the small screen as a series, although I don't know if they could live up to my expectations!

This book! Y'all this book had me snort laughing so hard. It was embarrassing. I read it in 4 hours, and now I can barely see, but who cares? This book had everything including Max. Jason and Maddy seem to not have their lives together, and come crashing back into each other's lives. This book has, humor(a TON),lust, love, and adventure. This was a page turner for sure, and I love this series so hard. Do yourself a favor and get this book. Told in dual pov.

The Consequence of Rejection is the fourth book in the Consequence series by the fabulous Rachel Van Dyken. I'm one of her biggest fans and I love that she can write anything. Mafia, historical, humor, paranormal, you name it, she can write it. And write them all with fresh, witty characters. New and fun plots. Laugh out loud humor and sobbing tears. This is Jason's story. Poor Jason. I've loved him from the very beginning. There was just something about his sadness that called to me. Also, his wrong place at the wrong time luck. He just needed time to finally come to terms with the universe and himself. Oh, and the only woman he ever loved who ran away from him after he proposed to her. Crazy girl, Maddy. It's been ten years and she's back in town. She wanted to get out, go to college and be something. Not get stuck in the same town she grew up in. And after all this time, she ended up back there anyway. Fate? Luck? Seeing Jason after all these years brings back all her feelings. Guilt, lust, love, anger. Yes, she ran, but he didn't chase her. What did that mean? Jason never got his heart back after Maddy left town with it. He's been living the life he wanted. He's a cop. Has friends and family. When Maddy comes back to town, he sees her, loses his car door, breaks his toe and gets struck by lightning. Then he listens to Max, who's still off his damn rocker, and gets Maddy to agree to two days. Go back through memory lane to get closure. Relive their shenanigans, their first kiss, their high school love. Until it's not reliving anymore, it's now and it's real. But can it be? Can Jason trust that Maddy won't run again? Will Jason truly forgive her and finally get his happily ever after? I loved this story. Jason. Sigh. I love him so much. He suffered a lot to get his happy and it was so worth it! Every fall, every break, every close call. He had to prove he was ready. Overall, I laughed out loud, teared up a little, had to fan myself, and loved seeing the gang again!

Ten years, and his kiss hadn't gotten worse.
No, it had gotten better.
He was all smooth velvet, tasting me, making my body hot all over as his lips moved across mine, covering my mouth, claiming it

"Every time I see her, I want to yell."
"Because you're angry, and where there's anger, the heart 'twill not grow."
"The hell?" Colt rasped. "he just say, 'twill?"

They passed around a flask, and then Max handed me a sub sandwich, as if that would make it all better. He was like the Italian who solved everything with food.

The Consequence of Rejection is the fourth book in the Consequence series by the ever-talented, Rachel Van Dyken. I have been following the series from the beginning and have love for all the characters but I still have my favorite man. That man is Max Emory. He kills me. It just wants his best friend Jason to be happy. To move on from the rejection that broke him.

Ten years. Ten years since Maddy ran away from him. Them. She was his forever until she left town with one of his best friends they day after he proposed. He was crushed. In the years they were together, he never pictured a life without her. Sure, years later he would almost marry someone else but he dodged that bullet on his wedding day. Thank God. Now...Maddy was back living across the street from him. He hated what she had done to him. He also hated that he still loved her.

Max might be crazy but he is brilliant. He had a plan. Operation Closure. That is what Jason and Maddy needed to move on. To do this they would have to spend time together. Get it all out on the table. The good. The bad. And the ugly. No matter what so they could move on from their past. It was the only way to get Jason to his happy. And that is what Max wants for him. If Jason continued the way he was, he would be a lonely cop with twenty cats and no pussy.

Will Operation Closure bring Jason and Maddy back together or a friendship? Or will it make Maddy run again?

I have been waiting for Jason’s story since the day of his wedding and the wait was so fucking worth it. I just love his accident prone ass. A sexy cop with a romantic side? Gimme, gimme. Plus, he has the best of friends. I loved seeing them all together again. And Maddy...I feel for her. She is a strong character who made her mistakes but doesn’t have regrets. Together, they are fire. She is the flame that he needs.

Overall...I loved it all. The story. The laughs. The friendships. The love. The past. The present. I laughed hard. Cried a little. Felt the chemistry. Oh yeah...you do not need to read the previous books but I highly recommend it. You will won’t to know the rest of the gang better.

P.S. Rachel, if you put out a 365-day calendar of Max’s Guide for Dating and Other Life Lessons I would be the first one to buy it.

Quotes:

“Ah, come here, little one. Let Uncle Max tell you a story.”
“Say ‘Uncle Max’ again, and I’m shanking you,” Jason threatened from the ground.

“Come on, where’s your sense of adventure?”

“Live dangerously, Jason.”

Second chance romance anyone? Rachel Van Dyken has managed to give us a remarkable second chance on love between high school sweethearts Jason and Maddy while also giving us a large dose of laughter along the way.

Van Dyken really gave me belly laughs with Jason’s friends Max, Colt, and Reid all previously featured in her Consequence series. Now, I’ll admit I came in on this one at the tail in never previously reading this series. I must have missed out on so much laughter and craziness of these men and the ladies that have them by the balls! Although I didn’t read these in order, I have to tell you that I had no problem falling in love with Jason and Maddy’s story. It can completely be read as a standalone.

Jason Caro. Sigh. Police Man, yes please. Muscles of glory, yes please. Never over the girl next door, yes, yes yes please! This man is H-O-T! But he has got such crappy luck! Never mind the BFF he never wanted, Max, is torturing his sanity driving him to his breaking point. I’ve never laughed harder at the mishaps this man got into, nor have I ever swooned more for the love he wants to rekindle with the girl next door. 5 Swoon worthy Stars for Book Boyfriend Material!

Maddy. She’s sweet, relatable, and just trying to get over the boy she didn’t really mean to leave behind. Her character is endearing to say the least. She reminded me of my favorite movie character, Melanie Carmichael. She was wild, free spirited when she was in Jason’s care. Being lost in a big city brings her back to face the one thing she’s always regretted, the boy next door.

The Consequences of Rejection is definitely a book I’d recommend to readers. Van Dyken always writes a great book worth the money you spend and your time. Consequences of Rejection is entertaining, romantic and was written with some amazing characters that will keep your attention till the very end. I give it 5 Stars and a belly full of laughs!

We return to another instalment of The Consequence series by Rachel Van Dyken and yes it’s another one that’s going to have you rolling about the floor in gut wrenching laughter.

This book is Jason’s story and it’s a second chance love story that’s a rollercoaster of emotions with a dash of turbulence thrown in. Jason had his heart broken once before by Maddy and so when she quietly returns to town, he just wants to retreat into himself again. Max, Colton, Reid and the rest of the gang however don’t think this is a good idea and need to get him back on track, so they decide to roll forward with a plan of action. Jason’s not so sure it’s in his best interests but there’s no denying that the chemistry between him and Maddy still sizzles to burning point.

I really can’t get enough of the humorous banter that Rachel Van Dyken has put into this series and it’s no wonder she is one of my go to authors for a guaranteed fabulous read. It doesn’t come without all the other emotions though and some of the situations these characters have endured would bring a tear to a glass eye. Congratulations on yet another entertaining and extremely pleasing read.

Please note that even though the books in this series are all standalone, I would advise reading in order so you have a feel for all the characters who appear in each other’s books.

You do find out why she did what she did and it’s understandable but still hurt him nonetheless.

His friends are a hilarious great bunch of guys, it did annoy me they try to get him back to Maddy because I felt with what she did to him she didn’t deserve him but I felt it was done out of love. They wanted to help him find closure and move on.

I now have to go and read the other boy's stories especially Max because it was adorable.

I have been so excited for this book. Let me tell you - Rachel's books really do keep getting better and better! With every new release I am convinced that is her best work yet. Then I read another and am blown away all over again. Jason & Maddy are no exception!

This story and these characters are every bit the absolute perfection my rom-com / second chance loving soul needed! Add a RVD fix - gah on a level all it's own!

Hilarious banter made me laugh out loud. The heartbreak and soul shattering rejection were tangible. The chemistry and pull these two felt - I felt from head to toe. Like wow on the sexiness that builds up and when they give in - whew fanned myself! The hope that they could heal, forgive and move on whether together or apart was so real.

With the brilliant intervention from our favorite supporting cast (Max, Reid, Colt, Milo, Becca & Jordan) Jason and Maddy find their way. It's not easy. There's hurt feelings and disappointments to work through but those are beat out by the overwhelming desire for the future they always wanted. The feelings that are stronger than ever. Unfolds absolutely beautifully. Loved every word!

I hope this series continues with maybe some adventures with these couples into parenthood. I can imagine the shenanigans they can get into with babies.

I swear I have been living under a rock! How have I not read this series?  You can bet your ass I will be putting the rest of this series on the top of my TBR list!

Oh my gawd! This book is the bomb! It's funny, it's smexy it's all things good in the world!

This is the story of Jason and Maddy, but it's really a huge reunion of all the characters! This story can be read as a stand alone, I mean I have never read the other books so I can honestly say I loved this story. However, and this is a tiny however, I think it would be in the readers best interest to start at the beginning of the series to get the full potential of this book.

The dialogue is hysterically funny, smart and fast paced! I would love to live in Rachel's mind as she is writing! (But in a healthy, educational way! I swear!)

The angst is just the right amount and you can feel it in your heart and your bones!

The chemistry between Maddy and Jason is off the charts and it hasn't faded even though years had passed between them.  I mean who doesn't love a second chance story? I know I do!

Do yourself a favor! Read this book, and if you really to be a smart cookie, read the whole Consequences series!

Thank you for your words and letting us into your world of stories Rachel! I bow down to your wicked sense of humor, your brilliance and your overall awesomeness!

This is the first book I’ve read from the Consequence series and it can definitely be read as a stand-alone.

Let me start by saying the characters in this book are nuts. Max has to be one the most random, hyperactive and craziest characters ever. I loved him. STEAK SAVES LIVES! The guy killed me.

Jason had his heart broken ten years ago when the love of his life walked away from him. While he’s tried to move on, he’s never actually succeeded in getting the closure he needs. So when the woman who crushed him years ago suddenly turns back up in town it messes with Jasons head big time. Jason’s battling a lot of emotions when it comes to Maddy, mainly anger, so when Max tells him he needs to get his closure while Maddy is here, Jason decides to go with it.

I loved Jason. He’s hurt, angry but he still carries some of the love he once had for Maddy. Maddy did what she thought was best when she left ten years ago. Now she’s back and prepared to face the full force of Jason’s anger but when they start reliving the past, their old feelings start reappearing.

The main and supporting characters in this book are absolutely fantastic. From accident prone Jason to his friends and their wives, every single one is extremely likeable. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I laughed so much and didn’t put it down once.
